This movie made me burst in tears so badly, I had to
pause the movie several times because I couldn't breathe, I cried a lot. I
spill more tears than in all other films together, this is like if your
feelings were getting ripped, and you can't stop watching because you want to
cry more, at least that is what happened to me.
The movie is a musical drama, I usually don't enjoy
musicals but I could ignore the music easily, this is not an American movie, is
a foreign one and that's why is so different; the illumination, the music and
all that. I didn't wanted to watch it at first but at the end I was like
OMFG!!.
The story sets in Washington state in 1964 and focuses
on Selma Ježková, a Czech immigrant who has moved to the United States with her
son and works at a factory with her friend Cvalda. Selma and her son live in
poverty and doesn't have a house, they rent a trailer from a policeman(Bill)
who lives beside the trailer with his wife (Linda).

No one in her work should know about it because if
they knew she's incompetent she could lose her work, and she was pretty sure
that she'll never find a new job again.
She and her neighbors (Bill and Linda) had a good
relationship, Linda helped her so much, she cared her son when she was working all day, and at his birthday the couple bought him a bicycle.
The important part of the movie is when the Bill ask
Selma for money, 'cause he was broke and
didn't want Linda knew about it, Selma refuse, telling him that she
didn't have any money, so he pretends to leave the trailer and stay in silence
inside, he knew somehow taht Selma couldn't see him. At this moment Selma was
already completely blind and she didn't realize that the man was still in the
house, she feels a presence in the house and suspect that the man is in there
so she start saying "hello, hello", when nobody answers she takes the money she earned that day and
put it into the box, and then goes to sleep. The policeman take Selma's money
and go home.
The next day Selma makes a mistake at her work, she
knew perfectly every move she had to do at her work, that was why nobody
realized she was blind, but recently she
was getting distracted and having
hallucinations 'cause the disease, the thing is that she broke a machine, and
her boss realize she was blind and he fired her.

The police get to Bill's house and find him dead,
Selma was pursued, found and sended to prison, and finally she was sentenced to
the death penalty for stealing the money and kill a police officer. She tell
the police the truth but she doesn't have an alibi and no one believe her,
except for her friends and her son.
She has the opportunity of pay a bail and not die, she could live the rest
of her life in prission, but the only money she had was the money she gave the
doctor, Cvalda goes to talk with the doctor and he is open to give her a refund.
Selma had then two options: To keep living and let his son
get blind in the future or, give him the surgery and accept to die. She had to decide if HIS SON WAS GOING TO
HAVE A MOTHER OR HIS EYES.
The movie shows how the iniquities can take life's
away, and especially to the immigrants in that time. If you like to cry with
movies you can watch it, if you don't.. then don't even bother.
I ALMOST CRY WITH ONLY REMEMBER IT!! T.T
